Army of the Dead(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]
I am sure we can all agree that the zombie genre has become a bit stale. There's only so many times we can see the same formula washed and reused time and time again. But every now and then, we do get those diamonds in the rough that try to breath fresh air into the genre. Army of the Dead is a definite example of that.
The story of the movie is about a group of mercenaries who going to attempt to pull off a heist in the middle of zombie infested Las Vegas. You have this ragtag group of people that come together for their own reasons for wanting to pull this off, and not all of them are good. Because this involves a zombie infection, there are some parallels to the current coranavirus pandemic we are facing. And with any apocalyptical zombie scenario, some of the humans are worse monsters than the zombies.
Speaking of zombies, this movie shows you two different types, you get your slow types known as Shamblers, and the fast types known as the Alphas. You don't want to meet the Alphas in a dark alley that's for sure. The movie introduces some new ideas of zombies have hierarchies, as well as being able to coordinate and plan attacks. It also shows that zombies can feel things such as love and grief. There is a moment that is call back to the Dawn of the Dead remake. It all leads to a nail biting emotional ending.
I went into this movie with no expectations. I figured it was either going to suck, or it would be completely awesome. It was most definitely the former. Once again, Zach Snyder crafted a mesmerizing zombie film. It is full of easter eggs, and it really does something different in the zombie universe. Is it perfect? Not at all, but it doesn't need to be.
So if you been holding off because of the negative things you heard from critics and the internet basement dwellers, don't pay attention to what you heard, give this movie a chance and watch it for yourself. You will be glad you did. In my opinion, it is one of the best zombie films I have seen, and it's hard to tell if we will ever seen anything like this again. Unless they do a sequel, which I heard rumors they might do one. If you already seen Army of the Dead, feel free to leave your thoughts below!!
