I always been a long time fan of Clive Barker as at times his stories can disturb you more than Stephen King can. Clive Barker isn't afraid to take you beyond the limits of human imagination to realm of the unreal.
Based on the short story "The Forbidden", the movie Candyman takes us on a journey of uncovering an urban legend and how powerful belief can be. The movie follows a journalist researching superstitions who stumbles on the legend of Candyman, only to find some legends are more real than they seem.
Tony Todd plays the character of Candyman, and he really puts himself into that character, giving it a sense of dread as well as commanding your attention. You almost come to emphasize with him as you learn how he came to be the creature known as Candyman. And everytime he appears, the choir that accompanies him with music by Philip Glass...it can be very chilling.
Definitely one of those movies that stands the test of time, and now it is getting a spiritual sequel with Tony Todd returning to the role of Candyman. Under direction of Jordan Peele, I am sure it will do well, and look forward to see how it turns out.
