Cradle of Filth - Midian(Review)[Musical Monday]
Today we look at Midian, in my opinion, one of Cradle of Filth's best albums. Horror is a big influence on them, and they like to use that to create concept albums. This particular album's concept is based on both the novel Cabal by Clive Barker as well as the movie based on the novel Nightbreed. They both revolve around the plot of an underground group of creatures who reside in a realm known as Midian.
What really solidifies this album is that the man behind Pinhead, Doug Bradley, provides some narration throughout the songs. It really helps give it a feel of grandeur throughout. The songs themselves are as heavy and intense as you would expect from Cradle of Filth, with the opening instrumental track that really sets the stage for what is to come. It still gives me chills every time I listen to the intro. From top to bottom, this is just a very solid album. This is their best work, and they haven't been able to match it since.
Some of the standout tracks for me are "Cthulhu Dawn", "Death Magick For Adepts", "Amore E Morte", "Her Ghost in the Fog", and "Tortured Soul Asylum". If you haven't heard this yet, and are both a fan of horror and metal, I highly recommend giving this one a listen.
