Elizabeth Harvest(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]

This movie is a modern take on the Bluebeard folklore tale, where a woman marries a wealthy man, and he holds a terrible secret behind a closet door. Except in this film, it is a secret room. She discovers her husband is not all what he seems, and it plays out just like in the folklore tale. Except there are added sci-fi nuances to the whole thing.

The movie was very well done, and reminded me of Westworld and Ex Machina at points. But it's definitely not perfect, in fact, after a main character is killed, the second half of the movie just plods along with backstories explaining why everything happened the way it did. In between that, we are shown Elizabeth still trying to escape the situation she is in, but I felt so disengaged because mostly the threat was already over. Even when all the twists were being thrown in towards the end, you knew she was making it out regardless of what happened.

I could definitely relate to the husband in doing what he did even though I didn't agree with his methods. Just because you have the science and technology to do something does mean you should do it. No one can play God, and not expect consequences. And he pays for overreaching himself. The women in this story show their power. Natural order finds a way to correct the wrongs, leaving some bodies in its wake.

Definitely check out Elizabeth Harvest if you haven't already. I enjoyed it's take on the classic folklore, and you will want to see how it plays out. I just wasn't a big fan of the second half of the movie, and you will probably understand why once you see it. If you seen the film, what are your thoughts on it? Feel free to comment below!
