House of 1000 Corpses(Review)(Killer Clown #3)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]
With Three From Hell releasing today in limited theatres, I thought it would be fitting to discuss the movie where it all started. For many, House of 1000 Corpses was an odd movie at first, but it grew on you. For me, this is a required Halloween viewing.
The plot is centered around the Firefly Family and their encounter with a group of college kids searching for the legend of Dr Satan. They run into a Captain Spaulding who is the one that introduces them to the legend and points them to a place that is said to be his last whereabouts. Instead, it leads them into the clutches of the murderous Firefly Family, and rest of the film follows the night full of debauchery and terror.
As I said, this is weird movie to follow at first, especially with the visuals interspersed here and there. You can get a feel for the vision that director Rob Zombie had, but it may take multiple viewings to get the full scope. After all, you have to understand that this is his first movie since becoming a musician. Bill Mosely as Otis, Sid Haig as Captain Spaulding, and Sheri Moon Zombie as Baby are the standouts of the movie, and you quickly see they have absolutely no remorse as they inflict atrocity after atrocity on their victims. This movie almost got rated NC 17, and yeah it would have been nice to see the full unedited cut of the movie before it got toned down to be palatable enough to finally get released.
As far as the ending goes, there is much that is left to the interpretation of the viewer, but it did leave room for a sequel, which that movie I may review at a later date. In all, I do highly recommend this movie, and maybe you may decide to add it to your queue come Halloween.
