Hunter Hunter is a movie that starts off well, you are casually following the plot, and then it just gets dark. This would have been just another unassuming horror movie except for just where it takes you at the end. I'm not kidding when I say it gets dark folks.
The film is about a fur trapper and his family trying to survive in the wilderness, and find themselves victim to a wolf who is eating their game. The husband decides to try to hunt after the wolf and finds something else entirely.
Things become extremely complicated for the mother and daughter left behind when he has not returned from the hunt. They end up having to fend the wolf for themselves as well as try to find food wherever they can. So that's pretty much where the movie is going setting up this human vs nature conflict. But in the background it is also giving breadcrumbs of there being some other threat going on. You could be forgiven if you think this is going to turn into a werewolf film, because I almost thought that too.
When the ending comes, it comes at your throat just like a wolf. I really can't do it justice by putting it in words, but it is the most brutal ending I have seen in some time. Just to give you an idea of how brutal it is, the end credits are just silence with nature sounds. It's as if the producers knew we would need something to help us process just exactly what we saw.
A movie I definitely recommend watching. It is currently streaming on Hulu, and something I should mention is Hulu has been stepping up it's horror selections as of late. This is another quality addition in my opinion as it keeps your attention because you want to see where it is going. If you already seen Hunter Hunter, feel free to leave your thoughts below!!
