Leprechaun(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

To continue the spirit of Saint Patrick's Day, I figured now would be a good time to look back at the movie that started it all, the very first Leprechaun movie.

The movie is about the titular Leprechaun who is accidentally unleashed and terrorizes a family to get his gold back. It also features the very first starring role for Jennifer Aniston. They tried to play this as more of a straight horror film, but it was just hard to take seriously with Warwick Davis running around as the Leprechaun doing his various gags and one liners. I dare you to take a shot every time you hear the Leprechaun exclaim "me gold", you will be stupidly drunk by the end, which believe me, it helps make the movie more palatable.

Every horror movie monster has a weakness, and that is no different here. For some reason it was decided the Leprechaun would be obsessed with cleaning shoes and that four leaf clovers are deadly to him. It just makes it even more silly especially when his victims are literally throwing shoes at him to distract him. Then there is the way they kill him, with one of the most best lines in the movie which goes "Fuck you Lucky Charms!"

All the goofiness aside, this was not too terrible of the movie, especially compared to the sequels that followed. It has some decent gore effects, and is probably the scariest film out of the entire series. Through out the franchise, we will watch as the Leprechaun goes to Vegas, in space, and even into the hood. It just gets sillier and goofier from here, but some reason we never got tired of coming back to see Warwick Davis chew the scenery more every time he played as the Leprechaun. I wouldn't mind see him coming back to play the part at least one more time if the Leprechaun series continues.

Till next time, stay safe and stay scared!! -Tha Thrilla-
