It is the week of the dreaded Valentine's Day, and I figured what better time to review Love and Monsters. It was originally going to be called Monster Problems, but then they switched the title. This is a heartwarming giant monster film about a boy in a post apocalyptical world who journeys to reunite with a girl he is love with.
The boy, named Joel, is definitely not the hero type when the movie first starts off. Everyone expects him to not make it and make him believe he is useless. It is during his journey that he finds out who he is, and also learns more about how to survive in a world besieged by giant monsters. He acquires a dog during his journey and even meets two other survivors who have been making it on their own despite everything.
There are a few emotional moments during the films that will bring tears, times where you will cringe in terror, and even times where you will cheer. It's because of the monster aspect alone why I even reviewed this, plus this movie shows not everything had to be dark and grim to succeed. The ending even leaves open for eventual sequels if they decide to do that. Which I hope they do. I would love to know more about the different monsters inhabiting the world. There was even a monster that referenced Tremors in a small way, so I may have marked out a bit for that.
Definitely glad I went into this with an open mind, and I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Currently it is available for rental on Amazon if you want to check it out. If you already seen Love and Monsters, feel free to leave your thoughts below!!
