Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin(2021)(Review)[Weirdo Wednesday]

Director Christopher Landon is no stranger to the paranormal activity franchise, he actually wrote the last few entries in the series. And after having success with directing such films as 'Happy Death Day' & 'Freaky', he has returned to the found footage world.

"Next of Kin" circles around an orphan named Margot who has found out where her closest bloodline members live. She travels across the snowy woods into a secluded Amish community. It turns out that the locals are very friendly and open with letting her film her journey. They also accidentally reveal that they knew her mother - almost too well.

Full of cryptic mythology and ghastly happenings, we watch the next few days unfold.

This movie is beautiful, this franchise has never looked this good. The snowy outdoors are a wonderful change of pace and scenery, which open us up to the world instead of remaining in an apartment or bedroom. The setup sparks curiosity and the characters keep your attention. Overall, it's not a bad picture.

My sole complaint would be the real lack of scares. There's some good jumps and a scene or two of tension, but halfway through the vibe just doesn't feel the same - that might just be me though.

If you like the franchise, it's worth a watch. If you like ghost or found footage movies, it's worth a watch.

But if you typically don't like any of those categories, then you're probably not gonna enjoy this.

3/5
