Saint Maud(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]
Saint Maud is a look into religious fanaticism taken to the deep dark extremes. The movie is about a woman named Maud who becomes a caretaker of a cancer patient. She becomes convinced she must save this person's soul no matter what it might cost her.
As soon as you see Maud, you get the impression something is not right with her. Especially with how she describes her experiences when God is pleased, and see how she reacts in return. As the movie goes on, you start to wonder if it's even God that she is communicating with. It could also be her own warped version of God. Where it really goes wrong is when her ward pretends to buy into her beliefs, which never goes well when you are dealing with a mentally unstable person. It leads to an ending which shows the ultimate sacrifice to her God and you think she is happy doing so, but you get a small glimpse when reality sets in of what she has done.
This movie is pretty unsettling as you experience the world through the eyes of Maud. Honestly that is where the dread sets in with this young woman who has nothing but her God to comfort her. She does try to be a part of society, but ends up just being pulled back into her warped reality.
Currently streaming on Amazon Prime and Hulu, this is a movie definitely worth checking out. It's not the scariest but certainly is disturbing enough to stay in your mind. If you have already seen Saint Maud, feel free to leave your thoughts below!!
