Slither(Review)(Splattery September #1)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]
It's September, and you know what that means..61 days to Halloween!! To whet your appetites..or maybe make you lose your appetites rather, I cooked up an entire month featuring the most splatastic and goriest films that are out there. So prepare your barf bags, and let's dive right in!!
I'll start out with something a little light on the splat meter, but still enough to qualify on the list. Slither is a movie I very much appreciate, even though most see it as just a modernization of the classic movie Night of the Creeps. This was James Gunn first foray into horror before he gained notoriety for Guardians of the Galaxy. Slither delivered on so many levels, and it's a film I feel is very much under-appreciated.
The movie is about a meteorite that crashes into the woods that surround the sleep town of Wheelsy. One of its citizens Grant Grant is infected by the organism that it contains, and chaos descends onto the town as they battle an alien organism that intends to devour everyone in its path.
The splattery aspect comes in from the various kills the creature racks up as well as the transformation that Grant goes under once he becomes infected. He has the ability to propagate, his victims becoming vessels for slugs, that once they infect their host, they become like a hivemind of sorts. This is why the movie gets compared to Night of the Creeps so much as that movie was also about alien slugs. But Slither's plot is totally different when it comes to the creature. The creature is ultimately defeated by appealing to its humanity, but as a post credit screen shows, the threat isn't exactly over.
This is a movie that I know it's not popular, but I love it just the same. It has everything you could want...plenty of gore, body horror, and just splatastic fun. If you haven't seen it yet, I cannot recommend it enough. If you have seen Slither, feel free to leave your thoughts below!!
So yeah...I went easy on you guys with this one...I can't promise the same mercy in my future entries haha.
Till next time, stay safe and stay scared! -Tha Thrilla-
