The Power(Review)[Terrifying Theatrical Tuesday]
Another stellar Shudder Exclusive that takes place in 1974 Britain, during a time they were experiencing energy shortages. A solution was they would cut off all power at certain times, leaving its citizens cold and hungry until the power returned. This is the where our film begins, in a hospital of all places, as a new nurse is hired on to help during the crisis. As if being in complete darkness isn't terrifying enough, a supernatural entity lurks about, trying to lead the nurse to a deep dark secret.
The times during when the darkness descends almost had a Silent Hill vibe to them, especially with Ashes floating about. Plus there is a sound of constant breathing serving as the background noise. As with any supernatural entity, possession takes place and seeing the body contort in unnatural ways was very cringe inducing. This is one of those films that builds up to its terrifying moments, and when they happen, it has a definite pay-off.
There's a reason for the way things are happening, which I feel is the theme of the movie. Darkness can hide many secrets, and there are many within the hospital. But eventually things will come to light, which leads to an ending that brings well deserved justice.
If you are wanting a different type of horror, this is the movie for you. It does well in capturing the setting of its time period. The lead actress is very exceptional in her role as the nurse. It has its share of spooky moments for sure, so definitely check it out. If you already seen The Power, feel free to leave your thoughts below!!
