Troll(1986)(Review)[Twisted Throwback Thursday]

Yesterday we met a troll named Trantor, so I found it fitting to introduce you to another troll named Torok. Released in 1986, Troll was a movie that quickly became a childhood favorite of mine.

The movie is about the Potter family consisting of Harry Potter Sr, no relation to the Harry Potter who went to Hogwarts, his wife Anne Potter, their daughter Wendy Anne Potter, and son Harry Potter Jr, again no relation to the Harry Potter who went off to Hogwarts. They just moved into an apartment building where a troll has secretly been hiding, waiting for the right time to claim his domain. What is interesting is even though Harry Potter Jr is not the same one who had magical adventures in the school for Witchcraft and Wizardry, he does have his own experiences with magic, witches, trolls, goblins, and fairies.

Torok's plan is assume the appearance of the Potter sister, and going to apartment and apartment, transforming each one to his world. Whoever it was that played the sister/troll, you can tell she had an absolute blast just causing chaos and being an absolute brat. We get to see one of the transformation scenes in full, which is the very first one, and it's a bit on the gross side. The different creatures are as monstrous as you expect...the design work was very well on them.

My favorite part of the movie is what I call the Troll Song sequence. You can take a look at that below:

This also features one of Julia Louis Dreyfus's first roles as well. As a whole, this movie is a fun affair. I really enjoy Troll, it's something that is more whimsical than scary, but it does have horror elements. It got two unrelated sequels, the infamous Troll 2, which I am sure we will cover in a future article,, and two different Troll 3's. This movie is something I consider a childhood classic, and something I highly recommend watching.

Till next time, Happy Halloween and stay scared!! -Tha Thrilla-
